Christ the Redeemer, the most famous post card of the Rio de Janeiro city and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World is covered with mosaic of 1 million and 7 hundred pieces of Soapstone extracted from Minas Gerais.

The monument was opened on October 12th, 1931 afther 9 years of construction. It is considered the largest Art Deco in the world with height of 30 meters (98 ft) plus it’s 8 meters (26 ft) pedestal, and its arms stretch 28 meters (92 ft) wide.

The Soapstone was chosen for its enduring qualities and ease of use as the monument is exposed to extreme weather conditions such as strong winds and heavy rains.
